Day 5: Princeton to Summerland

This was a long 82 mile ride in 90 degree heat.
We started off on a quiet road that followed a sparkling river.  It was a beautiful way to start our  day.

We had some great views of cattle and horses in pastures down in the valley.  There are a lot of cherry trees in this area and many fruit stands along the road.  Jerry, Rod and I stopped by a stand and shared a small basket of cherries.   We called this our first real "pit" stop.   A lady at the fruit stand asked why we were biking.  After I explained the purpose of our ride she reached in her purse and gave me a donation for Sea to Sea.

Later in the day, we had a long uphill  that nearly did us all in. We took advantage of a mountain stream to soak our helmets and a few towels for our necks.

We stayed in a campground that had a small brook right behind my tent.  It was great to sleep with constant sound of the running water.   It continues to get quite cold at night.  I use a lot of clothes to stay warm at night.
